AN ACCOUNTANT at Macha Mission Hospital in Choma has been robbed of K40,000 after criminals broke into his Toyota Hilux and got away with a bag containing the money.
Southern Province commissioner of Police Mary Chikwanda said in an interview that the incident happened on Thursday afternoon and identified the accountant as Chaamba Mwaanga, who had parked his vehicle at Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) offices in Choma.
Ms Chikwanda said the incident happened around 12:00hours as Mr Mwaanga was paying road tax at the RTSA office.
“We received a report in which Chaamba Mwaanga, an accountant of Macha Mission Hospital reported that unknown people broke into his Toyota Hilux and stole a black bag containing K40,000, the property of Macha Mission Hospital.
“Mr Mwaanga had earlier withdrawn the money from a named bank in Choma and secured it in a black bag inside his vehicle,” she said.
Ms Chikwanda said the criminals accessed the money by breaking the front left passenger’s window.
She said no arrests have been made yet but police have instituted investigations.
Ms Chikwanda appealed to members of the public to help with information that can lead to the arrest of the thieves.
