——————-The Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) in Kalabo District has confiscated eight illegal fire arms  from 10 suspected poachers found inside Liuwa Plain National Park.

Among the suspected poachers was a woman.

Park Ranger Safely Mulala who confirmed the development to ZANIS said the 10 were apprehended and appeared in court yesterday where they were charged for being in possession of fire arms illegally inside a National Park.

Mr Mulala disclosed that the rate at which suspected poachers were illegally possessing fire arms was alarming adding that there was need for consent efforts from Zambia Police and the Council to fight the vice before things got out of hand.

The Ranger said last year alone 19 Wilder beasts were killed in Liuwa and attributed the high levels of poaching to lack of employment among the local people living inside the park.

Last year, a Park Ranger Dexter Chilunda was shot dead by suspected poachers inside Liuwa National Park, a development that raised great concerns among community members who called on relevant authorities to confiscate all illegal fire arms.
