I’m still in the race – Nawakwi

FORUM for Democracy and Development (FDD) presidential candidate Edith Nawakwi says she is in the race until the last ballot is counted.
Ms Nawakwi, the only female candidate in the January 20, 2015 Presidential elections, said she was expecting to win the elections because she was as good as any other candidate.
Ms Nawakwi said, “the results are still outstanding anyone of us would emerge a winner in the next 48 hours. I am still in the race until the last ballot is counted”.
She said in an interview that results in some constituencies were still being announced an indication that any of the candidates would emerge winner.
Ms Nawakwi said that there has been so much suspicion in the presidential election because of the old system which was being used.

She said that her chances of winning the election were as good as those of other candidates because they were still constituencies yet to be announced which could be her strongholds.
She said that the anxiety among candidates has been caused by the Constitution which gives everything to a winning candidate unlike in other countries where losing political parties still get seats in the house.
Ms Nawakwi said that the campaign period has been short and hectic, adding that the holding of the election could have been avoided if the Government in power had accepted to put in a new Constitution.
“You can see the jostling of power between those who feel they have won each one feels that they must get there,” said Ms Nawakwi.
Ms Nawakwi said that her party was concerned about the tribal remarks which have surfaced in this year’s election.
