—————————-PF candidate Edgar Lungu has taken an early lead in Kasama district.

According to the results obtained by ZANIS this morning, 49 out of the 50 polling stations from Kasama Central Constituency have so far been counted putting Mr. Lungu in the lead at 11, 509 votes, followed by the UPND candidate Hakainde Hichilema who is trailing at 3, 439 votes.

Returning officer Davies Sikazwe said the election officials were only waiting for results from Kalundumya polling station which is about 90 kilometers from Kasama town to declare the final results.

He said the delayed receipt of the results from this station was due to the impassability of the road leading to the polling center.

In Lukashya constituency, PF’s Edgar Lungu has recorded 6, 545 votes while his closest rival UPND’s Hakainde Hichilema has 1, 405 votes.

The totals were from 39 out of 59 polling stations that had so far submitted their results.

According to ECZ sources at the totaling center, the results from the remaining 20 polling stations have been delayed because of the bad state of the roads leading to the centers.

An ECZ chopper is expected in the district to help ferry results from polling districts that are yet to submit their results.

Kasama district comprises two constituencies namely Lukashya and Kasama Central Constituencies.

The final results in the two constituencies are only expected late in the night.
