UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema says he will negotiate with traditional leaders to allocate more land to Zambians to empower them once elected as President in Tuesday’s presidential poll.
Speaking yesterday when he appeared on a live radio programme on Sun FM radio in Ndola, Mr Hichilema has also pledged to reduce the cost of building materials to enable more Zambians construct houses.
“We will reduce the price of cement so that many people could afford to put a roof over their heads,’’ he said.
Mr Hichilema also said once in office, he intends to reduce the cost of electricity to enable more people have access to the commodity.
On job creation, he said UPND will support local businesses to be sustainable.
“When the local businesses survive and grow, there will be creation of jobs. We will focus on economic turnaround to create jobs,’’ Mr Hichilema said.
He said the fight against corruption would be professionally done and not to settle political scores.
Meanwhile, NKWETO MFULA in Chingola reports that Mr Hichilema says he will look at how best mining taxes could support the industry to create jobs not only for the people on the Copperbelt but across the country.
Mr Hichilema, who was addressing a rally at Kaunda Square Grounds in Chiwempala, said those in the mining sector will be supported by ensuring favourable taxes in the industry.
Mr Hichilema said UPND’s policies are focused on job creation and would bring back credible mining contractors such to create more jobs for people in Chingola.
He also said the cost of fertilizer would be reduced to support the agriculture industry in the country for reduce cost of mealie meal.
