Zambia Railways Limited (ZRL) Chief Executive Officer Muyenga Atanga has disclosed that the railway company will introduce another modern train before the end of February this year.

This came to light today when the ZRL CEO addressed passengers before boarding the Michael Chilufya Sata Golden Jubilee train from Lusaka to Kafue.

Professor Atanga says the modern train will be dedicated for tourism purposes.

He says there is a growing demand in the country to have a modern train for tourism purposes and that the railway company has heed to calls to introduce the tourism train.

Professor Atanga has also disclosed that Zambia Railway will introduce a train from Chipata in Eastern Province to Blantyre in Malawi which will be called Luangwa Train.

Speaking at the same event, Railways Workers Union of Zambia President Nathan Zulu appealed to government to ensure that all former ZRL workers are paid their dues this year saying they have suffered enough.

Mr. Zulu notes that most of the promises the PF made in 2011 to the railway workers were fulfilled citing the repossession of the railway company in 2012.

He says it for this reason that the Union advocated that the new train be named after late President Michael Sata who ensured that the promise to repossess Zambia Railways Limited was fulfilled.
