The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) is disappointed with some District Commissioners who are allegedly imposing lists of names on electoral officers for recruitment as poll staff in the forthcoming presidential elections.

ECZ Acting Director Chomba Chella stated that all councils had publicised shortlists of candidates from 2nd to 5thJanuary, 2015 during which period, concerned citizens were expected to raise objections.

Mr. Chella said this period has since elapsed and therefore the Commission will not entertain any objections pertaining to the recruitment of poll staff.

He disclosed that training of the poll staff has since commenced and that it would be conducted from 7th to 9thJanuary, 2015.

This is contained in a statement released to ZANIS in Lusaka today.

Mr. Chella also appealed to all the District Electoral Officers and Returning Officers to remain non-partisan as provided for in the electoral act.

He further urged all officers to operate in a professional and transparent manner, stressing that the Commission will not hesitate to revoke the appointment of any officer who may be going against the law and expected conduct in the discharge of their duties.
