Govt will honour Sata’s youth directive

Ndola, January 4, 2015, ZANIS– Government says it will honour late president Michael Sata’s  directive of ensuring that mining contracts below K10 million are awarded to youth lead enterprises.

Minister of  Youth and Sport Chishimba Kambwili said government is committed to ensuring that youths in the country are empowered for their betterment.

Mr Kambwili said government through the National Youth Council (NYC) has since embarked on the process of collecting data for the existing youth entrepreneurs across the country.

In an interview with ZANIS in Ndola today, Mr Kambwili disclosed that once data is collected, government will prioritise the awarding of specific contracts for the youth organisations.

Mr. Kambwili has since directed the National Youth Council to expedite the national data collection exercise.

And Mr Kambwili said Zambia has capable youth laid organisations who can execute various mining contracts which are most times awarded to foreign contractors.

He expressed worry with the escalating sideling of local mining contractors by some mining companies the move he said will now be a thing of the past.

Mr.Kambwii who is Roan Member Patriotic Front (PF) of Parliament said government has put measures in place of ensuring that mining contracts are equitably shared.
