Govt to recapitalise public media

Lusaka, January 01, 2015,ZANIS…Information and Broadcasting Services Minister Joseph Katema says government has set aside K1.3 million in the 2015 budget to revamp operations in the public media .

Dr Katema said although the public media should not be over – dependent on government, the role the public media plays should be commended by the Zambian people whom they are serving.

The Information Minister said this last night during the Ministry’s  end year media cocktail party at the government complex in Lusaka.

Dr Katema stated that the public media deserve commendation for the innovations and ingenuity they have exhibited from the time the Patriotic Front (PF) Government came into power in 2011.

He also praised the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) for its strides in informing the Zambian people of what is happening in the nation fairly.

And Information and Broadcasting services Permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo said the Ministry is determined to ensure that the public media conducts its itself professionally.

Mr Kasola said for the public media to operate professionally, they need to be retrained to enhance their skills in order to serve the Zambian people better.

He further said government will not relent in improving the public and urged the media Personnel to always abide by their ethics in their professional work of informing the masses.
