The Zambia Youth Association in the fight against corruption has praised government on its intention to increase the youth development funds in the year 2015.
Association Executive Director Rickson Kanema said increasing the fund would help young people move out of extreme poverty.
Mr. Kanema said the youth across the country should support government because the increase in the fund was intended to benefit the young people.
He told the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in a telephone interview in Lusaka today that over 65 percent of the Zambia population comprised young people who need to be empowered with resources for their small businesses.
Mr. Kanema said the increase will also result in job creation because some youths who will benefit from such funds will in the long run employee other young people.
He noted that many youths in the country fail to access the youth development fund due to the inadequate resources.
And Mr. Kanema has urged the youths who will be privileged to access the fund to put it to good use.
Mr. Kanema sadly observed that some youth who access the youth development fund end up squandering the money.
He said it was sad for young people to misuse the funds instead of venturing in small business enterprises.
Mr. Kanema has meanwhile implored the Ant-Corruption Commission, the Drug Enforcement Commission and the Zambia Police Service to arrest anyone young person that would be found misusing the resources.
He said the law enforcement agencies should be able to quickly move in and arrest those who will misuse the money.
Yesterday, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sport Christopher Mulenga announced that government intends to increase the youth development fund in the year 2015 in order to benefit a large number of young people.
