————Government says the future of Zambia’s entrepreneurship lies with the economic empowerment of youths.
Youth and Sport Deputy Minister, Christopher Mulenga said the involvement of youths can be a stimulant for creation of jobs and wealth for the country.
Mr Mulenga said government remains determined to improve the welfare of youths in the country by providing necessary funds to enable them engage in productive ventures.
Mr Mulenga said this today in Mpika when he disbursed K548, 000=00 to 17 youth enterprises and organizations from Muchinga Province.
The Youth and Sport Deputy Minister observed that there has been a tremendous improvement in youths accessing funds from the youth revolving fund to undertake various business ventures.
Mr Mulenga pointed out that since inception in 2012, over K30 million has been disbursed to over 900 youths who have since created over 3,000 employment opportunities for youths by youths in the country.
He expressed optimism that government’s continued youth empowerment programmes will help reduce the high levels of youth unemployment.
He said government is frantically working round the clock to ensure that the over four million youths in the country have meaningful employment and engaged in productive ventures.
Mr Mulenga said government wants to ensure that youths that have been empowered create jobs for fellow youths in order to reduce the high youth unemployment levels.
And speaking at the same occasion, Muchinga Province Permanent Secretary Bwalya Ngandu noted that the youth development fund is a vehicle for enterprise development.
Dr Ngandu urged youths to work hard and to be financially disciplined by ensuring that they pay back the loans if other youths are to benefit from the fund.
He however, appealed to the `Ministry of Youth and Sport to consider disbursing the funds early in the year in order to allow for implementation of agricultural oriented projects.
And giving a vote of thanks, one of the youth beneficiary, Florence Kangwa hailed government for coming up with the Youth fund and assured government that the funds will be put to good use and repaid accordingly.
