Property worth over K65, 000 has been lost after heavy rains coupled with strong winds blew- off the roof at Kapatu market in Chief Shibwalya Kapila of Mporokoso district.

MMD Lunte Constituency Coordinator Adorn Shalawambe has disclosed the development to ZANIS in Kasama today.

Mr. Shalawambe narrated that the heavy  down pour which lasted several hours over the weekend left merchandize worth thousands of kwacha soaked.

Mr. Shalawambe has since appealed to government through the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) and Lunte Member of Parliament Felix Mutati to come to the aid of the affected families.

And one of the affected traders Martin Chambanenge said he was saddened by the development which has left a trail of destruction in the area.

Mr. Chambanenge said three shops had the roofs blown off and groceries worth over K65, 000 soaked by the rains.

He was optimistic that government through the DMMU will quickly come to the aid of those affected and help them resume their businesses.

Mr. Chambanenge said several other marketers have been left with nowhere to conduct their trade in the area.

Kapatu Market was constructed in 2001 using the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
