Government has assured the national soccer team of full support ahead of the 2015 Equatorial Guinea Africa cup of nations tournament.

Minister of Youth and Sport Chishimba Kambwili said government was ready to provide funding to the team and other logistics in readiness for the tournament.

In an interview with ZANIS sports in Lusaka, Kambwili disclosed that government has since approved the team’s budget which he however could not disclose.

And Kambwili has asked soccer fans to rally behind the team as it represents the country in next year’s Africa cup of nations tournament.

Meanwhile, soccer fans have described the final 27 man squad that coach Honour Janza has called to camp as balanced.

Zambia Sports Fans Association (ZSFA) patron Peter Makembo said the team was well composed but urged the players and the technical bench to remain focused.

Janza yesterday named the final 27-man squad which saw several key and experienced players left out.

Among those left out by Janza are Roger Kola, Jacob Mulenga, Christopher Katongo, Felix Katongo, Collins Mbesuma, Joseph Musonda, Kabaso Chongo, Hichani Himoonde and clubless play-maker Fwayo Tembo.

Zambia opens the Africa cup of nations campaign on January 18, 2014 against Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) before taking on Tunisia and Cape Verde on January 22 and 26 respectively.
