Patriotic Front President Edgar Lungu and new United States of America Ambassador to Zambia Eric Schultz on Monday held a closed door meeting at Pamodzi Hotel were they discussed various national matters.

Mr. Lungu told journalists after the meeting that the two discussed issues of the economy and the need to have free and fair elections.

Mr. Lungu however says there was no talk of the US backing him but strictly focused the deliberations on politics and the economy.

And asked if the talks also centred on reconciliation with Acting President Guy Scott following another closed door meeting that the US President held with Dr. Scott on Sunday, Mr. Lungu says he has not differed with the Acting President and therefore the i
sue of reconciliation does not arise.

He says Dr. Scott will be able to join his campaign trail when ready, as he could be busy with national affairs.

And the US Ambassador says he will meet all strong contenders in the January 20 2015 Presidential elections.

He says the talks with Mr. Lungu focused on national development and the need to increase investments as his main concern is the high poverty levels in rural areas.

Mr. Scultz has described the current campaigns in the country as a crush course of Zambian Politics for him.

He was accompanied by Deputy Chief of Mission David Young and Chief of Section Political and Economic Affairs, Timothy Smith.

Mr Lungu was accompanied by PF Chairman for Transport Willie Nsanda and PF Secretary General Davies Chama among others.
