Contractors urged to employ local people

Nalolo, December 16, ZANIS——————Government has advised contractors to strengthen links with communities by creating employment for the local people.

Health Minister Joseph Kasonde said there is need for contractors to empower local people by engaging them on projects being constructed in their areas as opposed to employing people from other places.

Dr. Kasonde was speaking yesterday in Liachi area in Nalolo District of Western Province during the groundbreaking ceremony of Nalolo District Hospital which will be built at a cost of K13.4 million.

He said the 200 bed space hospital which is scheduled to be completed by the end of next year will fulfil government’s aim of ensuring that no Zambian travels 5 kilometers without finding a health centre.

Dr. Kasonde called on the local people to monitor the project and assist the contractor when faced with challenges so that the District Hospital is completed on time.

He noted that the Ministry of Health was keen to ensure that the construction of the District Hospital which was part of the projects that were embarked on by the late President Michael Sata is fulfilled.

Meanwhile, Nalolo Member of Parliament Inonge Wina said the symbolic event of ground breaking of Nalolo District Hospital will transform many lives and to travelling long distances to access medical facilities.

Ms. Wina stated that she was certain that the Patriotic Front government will continue with the pledges that were made by President Sata even after the January 20th elections when they will be re-elected into office.

And giving a vote of thanks, Area Induna Ilopo-Kawana Mutanga thanked government for the construction of the hospital.

The ground breaking ceremony which was attended by over 300 local people was witnessed by Western province Assistant Secretary, Sineva Kambenja, Nalolo District Commissioner Mundia Samwene, Provincial Medical Officer  Andrew Silumesi and Nalolo District Medical Officer Ngombo Chikote among others.
