——The Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) has called on Mwense District Council to establish a strong revenue base to address the current financial challenges the council is facing.

Speaking when she paid a courtesy call on the District Commissioner’s office over the weekend, LGSC Commissioner, Margaret Kapiyha, said financial challenges, which most councils were facing, could be addressed through the establishment of a strong revenue base.

Ms Kapiyha said the local authority should come up with Income Generating Activities (IGAs) to complement government efforts in addressing the current challenges.

She said limited resources by most councils has resulted in delayed payments of division four workers hence the call.

And speaking earlier, acting District Commissioner, James Chanda, called on the Ms Kapiyha to deploy qualified and experienced staff to the district.

Mr Chanda said the development of every district is dependent on the local authority hence the need for a well-qualified workforce.
