Government says it is firmly committed to support and promote the growth of a vibrant media industry in the country. Information and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo says  the State wants to see a competitive, free and responsible vibrant media. He added that it was government’s desire to see that the media  that plays an active role in the democratic and economic dispensation of the country.  ZANIS reports that Mr Kasolo said this when he officiated at the tenth anniversary of 5 FM radio station held at Golden Peacock Hotel last evening in Lusaka.  Mr Kasolo said government will support and assist any media institution in the country that wants to expand its operations. The Permanent Secretary commended 5fm radio proprietor Mateyo Phiri for entering into a partnership with a Chinese Media publishing and broadcasting company in order to expand and improve services. He noted that the media under the PF government is operating freely and providing adequate coverage to all stake holders. Mr Kasolo commended the media for providing adequate and fair coverage to all political parties currently campaigning for the January 20, 2015 presidential by-election. And speaking earlier, Mr Phiri thanked government for levelling the playing field in the media industry. He said his Radio Station will endeavour to connect the local consumers to the global market and provide accurate information for people to make informed decisions.…………….PIX.

 

3.     Chinsali, December 13, 2014, ZANIS— Opposition UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema says he is ready to finish the two universities under construction in the district if voted into power. Mr. Hichilema says the construction of the two public universities,namely Robert Makasa and Paul Mushindo respectively.He said that two varsities that the late Republican President late Michael Chilufya had embarked on in Chinsali will be successfully completed and commissioned once his party is voted into power after the January 20, 2015 presidential by –election. Mr. Hichilema said that the two universities under construction in Chinsali District are very important to the people in the area and the rest of the country.He added that his party will also ensure that it gives bursaries and scholarships at all public universities including those students who will be educated at the two universities in Chinsali. He was speaking at a public rally held at the presidents ‘park.Mr. Hichilema said that his Government would ensure that all Zambians have free education from Grade One to the University……dry

4.  Mongu  —-  About one hundred youths from different organizations in Mongu District of Western Province have called on their colleagues in the province to rally behind PF Presidential candidate Edgar Lungu in the fourth coming presidential By- elections. Speaking on behalf of the youths in an interview in Mongu District today, Namakando Lilandwe said under the PF government Western Province has seen massive developmental projects such as road construction, creation of new districts and employment for youths. Miss. Lilandwe added that the province has also seen the allocation of funds in the 2015 National Budget towards the construction of King Lewanika University in Mongu District and a Science Technical University in Nalolo District respectively.  She pointed out that during the PF government the youths witnessed a draft driven people’s constitution and an increase in the allocation of Youth Development Fund (YDF) which has benefited a lot of youths in the province. Miss. Lilandwe emphasized that there was need for the projects and programs introduced by PF government to be completed in order for the people of Zambia to have a fair judgment in 2016………….dry
