More than two hundred households have been left homeless after Zambia Wildlife Authority officers burnt down their homes for encroaching on Lukusuzi National Park in Lumezi constituency in Lundazi district.

Lumezi Member of Parliament Isaac Banda has told Parliament today that ZAWA officers armed with guns early this morning ordered the affected people out of their homes before setting their homes on fire.

Mr Banda says more than one hundred houses have since been burnt by the ZAWA officers.

He says this morning he talked to the provincial Minister so stop the ZAWA officers from destroying people’s houses, but that his efforts were in vain.

Mr Banda who rose on a point of order wondered whether government is order to subject people to the cold and rains by destroying their homes.

In his ruling Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini advised Mr Banda to file an urgent question which will be responded to tomorrow.
