ZAMBIA’S 4TH REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT RUPIAH BANDA HAS BEEN OFFICIALLY UNVEILED AS THE MMD’S CANDIDATE FOR THE JANUARY 20, 2015 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.

OPPOSITION MMD presidential aspirant Rupiah Banda has said talks about a proposed alliance between his party and UPND collapsed because he was not accorded an opportunity to lead the alliance.
Mr Banda said the talks about the alliance collapsed partly because the UPND wanted him to play second fiddle to its leader Hakainde Hichilema.
The former head of State also wondered why Mr Hichilema had gone to Eastern Province with a campaign message that he would restore Mr Banda’s immunity but had never said so on his campaign trail in other parts of the country.
Mr Banda further said during the Press Freedom Committee Forum at Southern Sun in Lusaka that there was need for unity in MMD now that the High Court had declared him the sole official candidate of the former ruling party.

Mr Banda’s call for unity follows MMD national secretary Muhabi Lungu’s declaration that he had been officially confirmed by the High Court as the sole presidential candidate of the party to contest the January 20, 2015 election.
The MMD would not be deterred by false attempts to create confusion regarding the candidacy by some suspended members.
The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has already recognised Mr Banda as the candidate on the MMD ticket and has as such acknowledged the official letter received from the party secretariat, putting an end to the matter.
