Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services (MIBS) Permanent Secretary (PS) Chanda Kasolo has attributed the rising number of gender based violence (GBV) in the country to wickedness in people.

Mr. Kasolo says evil in men and women is the root cause of gender based violence in Zambia.

He was speaking in Lusaka today when he opened a one-day gender based violence workshop for Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services employees.

He further said poverty, especially in rural areas, was the major driver of the vice in households and communities.

And speaking earlier, Young Women Christian Association of Zambia (YWCA) Programme Co-ordinator Peggy Nhlema said Eastern province has the highest cases of GBV in the country.

Mrs. Nhlema said violence, child neglect, emotional abuses, child and spouse battering were among the high cases recorded by her office in that region.

Meanwhile, one of the participants, Chansa Kasapo, said the workshop was an eye opener on issues of GBV.
