Lusaka Province Permanent Secretary Wamunyima Muwana has thanked the Association for Aid and Relief Japan (AAR Japan) for complimenting government’s efforts in providing support towards HIV/AIDS treatment in the country.

Mr. Muwana said AAR Japan has helped in providing a favourable environment for the provision of anti-retroviral treatment (ART) services to people in various communities.

He noted that the organization has trained community volunteers who were helping in the provision of services such as adherence and counselling in the ART clinics.

Mr. Muwana said this today when AAR Japan handed over an ART centre at Mwembeshi health centre in Chilanga district.

He noted that the AAR Japan did not only construct the Mwembeshi ART centre but also constructed a voluntary counselling and testing (VCT) and ART centre at Mount Makulu health centre in Chilanga district.

Mr. Muwana said the newly opened centre in Mwembeshi will greatly help in reducing the people’s challenges of travelling to distant areas s to access treatment.

Meanwhile, Japanese Ambassador to Zambia Kiyoshi Koinum said the project was meant to offer appropriate and efficient medical services in the communities.

Mr. Koinum expressed hope that the centre will help resolve many challenges that health centres face during ART service delivery.

And Acting Chilanga District Commissioner Frezer Musonda thanked the Japanese government for the good partnership shared with Zambia.

Mr. Musonda said Zambia has enjoyed assistance from Japan for many years through infrastructure support and capacity development in the district.

He also thanked government for continued technical support and provision of antiretroviral drugs.

He has since appealed to AAR Japan to construct more ART facilities and train more ART service providers in the district.
