A MAN of Ngwenya Township in Livingstone has been crush to death by a train.
Joseph Banda, 27, attempted to retrieve his mobile phone which had fallen onto the train tracks, when he slipped and fell and the trained ran over him.

The accident happened on Tuesday around 11:30 hours in Makunka area of Kazungula District.
Southern Province Police commissioner Mary Chikwanda said the incident was reported by Collins Mukumwa, a Zambia Railways Limited (RZL) employee to Simonga Police post at 16:30 hours the same day.
Ms Chikwanda said Mr Banda was on board a Mulobezi bound train and was standing by the door of one of the cars when he dropped his cell phone.

Meanwhile, a 39-year-old man of no fixed aboard was yesterday found dead in the Linda Police cells.
Ms Chikwanda said Mwiya Muyambango was brought in by G3 security officers for theft, around 21:30 hours on Tuesday.
She said Muyambango was found dead on Wednesday morning in the same cells, and police suspect that one of the inmates must have hit him with an iron bar found in the cell after a quarrel because he was found with a cut on the forehead.

“As police, we suspect that there might have been a quarrel with another inmate who hit him with an iron bar that was found in the cell because he had a cut on the forehead,” Ms Chikwanda said.

  1. Hmmmm! “Mwiya Muyambango was brought in by G3 security officers for theft.” (instant justice must have been meted before being taken to police cells). “was found dead on Wednesday morning” (from injuries arising from the beating), and police suspect that one of the inmates must have hit him with an iron bar found in the cell after a quarrel (conveniently the iron bar found itself in the cell). Lets wait to hear which inmate will be charged with murder.
