Political Alliance to support Hakainde Hichilema Announced

I am delighted to announce the launch of a political alliance ahead of the presidential by-election scheduled for January 20th. Under the agreement ADD President Charles Milupi has agreed that his party will support my candidacy in the 2015 by-election. We made the official announcement at the ADD headquarters in Lusaka yesterday, where we were also joined by APC President Nason Msoni and PP President Mike Mulongoti.

This is a great step forward that comes from the desire of all our parties to put national interest before personal and political ambition at this uncertain time. The UPND remains open to political parties who want to join our journey to build a better and united Zambia.

Such pacts are never something to enter into lightly but we are in agreement over what needs to be done and confident that we can work well together in the interests of the Zambian people.

This comes at a time when we see other parties squabbling and fighting amongst themselves which does nothing to help develop the country.

What is needed now is strength, maturity and unity of purpose. Together, we will seek to address the failings of the PF government, continue the program for development, and deliver on outstanding promises made to the Zambian people, including the matter of the new constitution. We will also ensure a smooth and peaceful path to General Elections in September 2016.

We remain 100% committed to forming a Government that represents unity and the Zambian people. I would like to thank ADD President Charles Milupi, APC President Nason Msoni and PP President Mike Mulongoti for their willingness to work with us on this matter.

We ask you to consider us for your vote on January 20, and to vote for Hakainde Hichilema for a better Zambia.
