A 52-YEAR-OLD police officer has told the Kitwe Magistrate’s Court that he has received information that fugitive Holy Fire Ministries Bishop Dominic Nyondo, who is alleged to have committed suicide, is in the country.
This is in a case in which Nyondo is charged with defiling, raping and indecently assaulting nine congregants at his church.
Nyondo is alleged to have committed the offences between 2010 and last year.
When the matter came up for return of bench warrant before senior resident magistrate Daniel Musonda yesterday, Ephraim Kosamu told the court that he has received information from some family members of the victims that Nyondo is within the country.

“Your Honour, we received information that Bishop Nyondo is alive and that he is within the country, if found we will bring him to court,” Mr Kosamu said.
Mr Musonda adjourned the case to December 12 this year for return of bench warrant.
Nyondo denied all the charges against him when he appeared for plea before Mr Musonda but the case stalled after he vanished following reports that he had jumped into crocodile-infested Kafue River.

Despite the suicide allegations, the State maintained that Nyondo is alive because there is no evidence to show that he is dead.
Mr Musonda issued a bench warrant against Nyondo and committed his sureties to prison for allegedly failing to present him before court.
The sureties were later released after paying K5,000 cash each.
