Chabola bridge near completion

Shiwangándu, November 25, 2014, ZANIS…Construction of Chabola bridge across Chamusenga stream in Shiwangándu district is almost complete.

The bridge has been built at a cost of K1 million.

A check by the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in the area yesterday revealed that vehicles including trucks have already started using the bridge whose construction commenced in July this year.

It is the first time since independence that residents of Chabola and Chamusenga are now able to easily access services across the stream.

Chamusenga ward councillor told ZANIS in an interview that people in the area were happy that the bridge constructed by the Road Development Agency (RDA) is near completion.

Mr. Casius Chiti said trucks carrying bags of fertilisers have for the first time reached Chabola school for further distribution to the farmers in the surrounding areas.

One of the residents Loveness Bwalya said construction of a bridge across Chamusenga stream had brought great relief.

Bwalya said residents in the area used to find it difficult to access services such as education and health on the other side of the stream during the rainy season.

And Chabola head teacher Martin Silungwe said many children stopped attending classes especially between January and March when water levels in the stream were high.

Works on the bridge included construction of multiple line box culverts, construction of the embankments and approach roads.

RDA has indicated that construction of the bridge will be complete and commissioned in the next few weeks.
