PATRIOTIC Front (PF) aspiring presidential candidate, Mulenga Sata has said he is eligible to stand as president because his mother is an indigenous Zambian born in Kitwe.

Mr Sata said there was no question about where his mother was born and he was, therefore, not affected by the parentage clause in the Constitution.

“My mother was born in Wusakile in Kitwe and you know who my father was,” Mr Sata said. “There is a ruling on the matter. Yes I could have relatives from Malawi but my mother was born here.”

Mr Sata, who is Lusaka mayor, was speaking when he featured on UNZA Radio in Lusaka yesterday.

Commenting on the election, he said it was inevitable for the next leadership to continue with development projects initiated by late President Michael Sata as the implementation process was gradual.

Mr Sata advised those vying for the presidency in the PF to work within the stipulated timeframe in order to move all party projects forward.

“Nobody will reinvent the wheel in one and a half year, it is a gradual process that the next person to be elected should continue in an effort to move the party projects forward,” he said.

Mr Sata said that the PF was looking for a caretaker to hold the party together.

On relinquishing his party position, Mr Sata said according to the party constitution, the position of lower party ranks was within 48 hours unlike that of the secretary general that was immediate.

He said if elected as Republican president, he would continue with infrastructure developments and road networks to open up the country.
