Minister of Transport, Works, Supply and Communication Yamfwa Mukanga says government is happy with the rehabilitation works on the Great East Road from Arcades Roundabout to the Airport Roundabout.

Mr Mukanga said the works are on schedule and commended the contractor, Stefannutti for working according to the specifications of the contract.

Mr Mukanga was responding to a question from Kaputa MP Maxas   Ng’onga who wanted to find out why the resurfacing of the Great East Road from Arcades Roundabout to Airport Roundabout had stalled and the completion time-frame for the project.

Mr Mukanga said the rehabilitation works is expected to last for 15 months and said the project will be completed by May 2015.

He however said the contractor has not been paid in full because the rehabilitation works are still ongoing.

Meanwhile Mr Mukanga also told parliament that the upgrading of Namushakende-Nakanyaa and Namushakende-Luampa roads in Nalikwanda Parliamentary Constituency to bituminous standard will commence soon.

Mr Mukanga said government will soon conduct a feasibility study on the scope of works between 2015 and 2016.
