My suspension is illegal- Dr Mumba

MMD President NEVERS MUMBA says his suspension by the National Executive Committe is illegal.

The MMD National Executive Committee suspended Mr MUMBA and adopted former President RUPIAH BANDA as the Party’s Presidential candidate for the January 20, presidential election.

Dr. MUMBA has told ZNBC News in a telephone interview that the party will NOT allow anyone to take shortcuts in becoming the party president.

Dr Mumba says he continue with his campaign in readiness for the forthcoming presidential elections.

Dr. Mumba has appealed to all MMD members to continue rallying behind him and focus on campaigning for the party.

Yesterday the MMD National Executive Committee suspended Dr. MUMBA for gross misconduct.

Meanwhile the MMD in Northern Province have rejected the decision by the National Executive Committee (NEC) to appoint former president Rupiah Banda as their presidential candidate for the forth-coming presidential by-election.

Provincial Information Secretary Cephas Bwalya told ZANIS today that the party in the area will not recognized Mr. Banda’s candidature because his comeback was done against the party constitution.

Mr. Bwalya says party members were instead united and will rally behind Dr. Nevers Mumba for presidency.

He said MMD members will not tolerate the usurping of political power through unconstitutional and undemocratic means by any person regardless of their status in society.
