The Zambia Centre for Interparty Dialogue (ZCID) has urged women to actively participate in Zambian politics and in the governance of the nation.

ZCID Executive Director Horrance Chilando said time has come for women to rise to the occasion and participate in politics.

Mr. Chilando told ZANIS in Lusaka today that women participation in politics should start now.

He has since implored women in the country to participate in governance issues just like their male counterparts.

He however commended Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) leader Edith Nawakwi, who is the only female presidential candidate, willing to contest the forthcoming presidential election slated for early next year.

Ms. Nawakwi’s candidature has been endorsed by her party.

The presidential by-election has been necessitated by the death of President Michael Sata who died in London at King Edward VII Hospital on October 28, 2014.

Meanwhile, Mr. Chilando has disclosed that the centre would train polling agents to monitor the forthcoming presidential poll.

He said the polling agents would work closely with the centre’s anti-party liaison observer team.

Mr. Chilando has meanwhile urged the youth not to be used by selfish politicians.
