— Home Affairs Minister, Ngosa Simbyakula has told parliament this morning that Nchelenge State Prison will next year receive a facelift.

Mr Simbyakula said the facelift will start in January as it has already being budgeted in the 2015 National Budget.

He said the scope of work will include the construction of two cells and an ablution block that will be constructed adjacent to the already-existing structure.

Mr Simbyakula said the current structure was built before independence and cannot accommodate the number of inmates as crime rates have since increased.

ZANIS reports that Mr Simbyakula was responding to a question from Nchelenge Member of Parliament, Ronald Mpundu, who wanted to find out what progress had been made on the expansion of Nchelenge State Prison as of August, 2014.

Meanwhile Local Government and Housing Deputy Minister, John Kufuna, said government is in the process of constructing a modern bus station in Kalabo district.

Mr Kufuna noted that it is government policy to ensure that modern bus stations are constructed across the country.

He said government is aware of the current state of the bus station in Kalabo and is working on the design and still sourcing for funds.

Mr Kafuna noted that once funds are released works on the construction of the bus station will commence.

He was responding to a question from Kalabo MP, Chinga Miyutu, who wanted to find out when the Ministry of Local Government and Housing will construct a modern bus station in Kalabo district.
