Southern Province Patriotic Front Political Secretary Leonard Siachona has called for peace and unity among the PF members in the country during the mourning period of President Michael Sata.

Mr Siachona said all PF members must uphold the peace and unity the country has experienced in the last 50 years of its independence.

Speaking during a media briefing at the Patriotic Front office in Choma today, Mr Siachona said the current PF leadership should emulate the five past Presidents the country has had since independence.

“This is not the time for people to bring out their political ambitions in a way that will violate the peace and unity that Zambia has experienced in the past 50 years of its independence under the leadership of five different presidents,” he said

Mr Siachona said President Sata brought unity and peace in the PF party and in the country as a whole hence the need for the country and the party in particular to ensure that peace prevails during his funeral.

And speaking earlier PF youth publicity and information secretary Joe Kamoko appealed to the members of the PF central committee to make decisions that will unite the party.

Mr Kamoko said it will be a sign of disrespect towards President Micheal Sata if members of the PF central committee engage in political wrangles before the burial.

“We as PF youths in Choma wish to appeal to members of the central committee to show respect to our late party President who was also the president by preaching a message of peace during this mourning period and not to engage in political wrangles,” he said.

Mr Kamoko said those who wish to aspire to presidecyt should only make their intentions public after the burial of President Micheal Sata.

Several PF members of Choma district today gathered at the PF district office to share their unhappiness over what they termed political wrangles in the PF leadership.
