14 school girls on anti-natal leave in Solwezi District

Solwezi, October 31, 2014, ZANIS —-    FOURTEEN girls at KISASA primary school in Senior Chief Musele’s area in Solwezi west have gone on antenatal leave.

School head teacher Christopher Kabema says that the number of girls falling pregnant has increased from 11 last year to 14 this year.

Mr Kabemba said though the school administration has been sensitizing girls on dangers of early pregnancies the numbers are still going up.

ZANIS reports that the School headteacher was speaking in an interview in Solwezi District, today.

Area ward Councilor Olix KAKWATA said the problem of high pregnancy rate is not only affecting school girls but the majority of girls in villages around Kalumbila mine area.

Councilor Kakwata said the girls are overwhelmed with the influx of men coming from other towns who are seeking employment at the mine.

He said the absence of family planning services was a contributing factor to the problem.
