— Community Development Mother and Child Health Minister Emerine Kabashi has called on Zambians to continue upholding and embracing the spirit of selflessness, sacrifice and patriotism that reedom fighters exhibited when they fought for independence.

Ms Kabanshi says there is need to continue building the country regardless of the different interests adding that determination, unity, and sacrifice was the only way that would take the country forward while embracing the one Zambia One Nation Motto.

Ms Kabanshi was speaking when she graced the Golden Jubilee celebrations in Mansa.

She said Zambia has 72 ethnic groups but still continues to leave peacefully but warned that the unity in diversity that Zambia was enjoying today is not a coincidence as it took painstaking efforts to achieve it.

She observed that the peaceful transition that all the five Republican Presidents had gone through was a clear testimony that the country’s democracy was growing and a symbol of unity in the country.

And Luapula Province Minister Brigadier General Benson Kapaya emphasized the role that peace plays in both political and economical development.

General Kapaya has since called on all Zambians to avoid statements

that could destabilize the country saying the peace being enjoyed now was fought at a great cost.

He added that as people continue to celebrate the country’s golden jubilee there was need to embrace a spirit of forgiveness.

And Luapula Province Freedom Fighters Association Chairman Festus Chisha called on Zambians to desist from corruption and tribalism.

Mr Chisha said freedom fighters did their part and that the onus was now on all peace loving Zambians  to remain united and develop the country.
