Education Deputy Minister Nevelyn Wilombe says government will continue the recapitalization of workshops in tertiary institutions by purchasing modern equipment.
Speaking when he officiated at the 31st graduation ceremony at Kabwe Institute of Technology (KIT) today, Professor Wilombe noted that irrespective of the semi-autonomy of the institutions, government still has a huge role to play and will continue to provide the necessary support.
Professor Wilombe said government also recognises the support that various stakeholders render to training institutions in the country.
He added that the development agenda of the nation is not only the baby of government but also need efforts from other stakeholders.
The Minister commended management for coming up with a theme “take responsibility and act responsibly” which he described as appropriate
in that Zambia is this year celebrating 50 years of independence.
Prof. Wilombe called on the graduates to ensure they that they are in the forefront of creating their own employment and others as well.
He said it is high time Zambians started to change their attitude towards formal and informal employment adding that the skills they acquired put the the graduating students at an advantageous position to be self-employed, to create wealth.
And speaking earlier, KIT Principal Kasanda Saila said the training being offered at the institute was focused more on innovations other than just repair and
maintenance.
Mr Saila sited cell phone controlled water pumps and cell phone control security system as latest innovations that the institution came up with which he said was a clear demonstration of where the institute would want to drive its training to.
Mr Saila commended government for continued support in various interventions saying without such support and that from other
stakeholders, operations at the institution would have been difficult to manage.
