——Chembe District Agricultural Coordinator (DACO), Hosia Chibalamuna, has hailed farmers in the district for the good harvest during the 2013/2014 farming season.

Mr Chibalamuna said he is happy to note that over 70,000 by 50kg bags of white maize have been purchased by the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) by September, 2014.

He said the district has also received over 7,550 50 kg bags of D compound fertilizer for the 2014/2015 farming season.

Mr Chibalamuna said this in an interview with ZANIS in Chembe.

He has since called on all farmers to take advantage of the early delivery of the 2014/ 2015 farming season and work extra hard to ensure that the district continues producing more food.

Mr Chibalamuna has encouraged farmers to diversify their farming in order to accommodate other food produce that can be grown in the district.

He said white maize is not the only limit to their production and urged them to increase production of rice, cassava and even the rearing animals like cattle.

The DACO has thanked government for the quick delivery of 2014/2015 farming inputs, saying the move will go long way in ensuring food security not only in Luapula but also in country.
