Shiwang’andu targets to eradicate Malaria

Shiwang`andu, October 14, 2014, ZANIS… The Shiwangándu district community Medical Office working in collaboration with Africa Indoor Residue Spraying (AIRS) will soon embark on the indoor spraying exercise to curb malaria incidences in the district.

Shiwang`andu District Community Medical Officer  Webster Kambinga said in readiness to commence the indoor spraying exercise, 24 spray operators have been trained while equipment to be  used during the exercise was in the process of being procured by AIRS.

Dr. Kambinga said this in an interview with the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Shiwang`andu today.

Dr. Kambinga said the exercise will start on the eve of Zambia’s 50 years of independence on October 23.

He said that 4,000 structures that include households and sleeping spaces are targeted for spraying in the district, especially in areas where malaria incidences are high.

Dr. Kambinga said only four areas of the district have been identified for the initial spraying exercise and that these include Mulanga, Matumbo, Ilondola and Mwika.

Dr Kambinga explained that the remaining areas of the district will be sprayed under phase two of the exercise during the next spraying season.
