A 43-YEAR old police officer has been detained at Chambishi Police Station for allegedly hiring someone to write his mathematics examination on his behalf.
According to police sources, the named officer of Kitwe allegedly paid a former school leaver to write mathematics paper two for him.
The officer was scheduled to re-write his mathematics paper at Chambishi Secondary School on Thursday last week but hired the identified boy to write on his behalf.
“But the plan backfired because some of the candidates in the examination room identified the hired boy as an intelligent boy who completed his education earlier and were convinced that he could not go back to re-write because he had already obtained good grades,” the sources said.
It is not clear whether police have charged the officer with an offence yet.
Efforts to get a comment from Copperbelt Deputy Commissioner of Police Mukuka Chewe failed by press time as his mobile phone went unanswered.
Kitwe District Officer Commanding Liz Machina also declined to comment on the matter.
Last week, pupils from some Government schools in Kitwe protested after realising that they had bought fake leaked examination papers.
