NDOLA CONMAN JAILED

A NDOLA magistrate’s court has sentenced a 34-year-old man to one-year-six-months imprisonment for impersonating a recruitment officer for First Quantum Minerals Limited (FQML) and swindling two people out of K900.
Ndola chief resident magistrate Paul Chisha sentenced Joseph Mulenga of Chibango Township in Mpika to one-year-six-months imprisonment for impersonation and obtaining money by false pretences.
Facts were that Mulenga between August 2014 and September 30, 2014  falsely represented himself as a worker of FQML having the authority to employ and also obtained K300 from Joseph Phiri and K600 from Trust Sichela.

Ignatius Kapenda, a security superintendent with FQML told the court that on September 30, this year, he was on duty when he received information by phone from a member of the public that there was a man at Broadway who was recruiting prospective employees on behalf of FQML at a fee of K500.
Mr Kapenda said a number of people that presented application letters to the said man said he had identified himself as Chance Kabaye of FQML.
The man was reported to the Police and he was found with a number of application forms on him from job seekers after being apprehended.

Another witness Mr Phiri said he was convinced by Mulenga that he would be assisted to get a job and he gave him K300 to give the human resources manager for talk time.
Mr Sichela said he was approached by Mulenga who identified himself as Chance Kabaye and said he had a managerial post and had the capacity to employ.
Mr Sichela said Mulenga produced a list of would be workers and their salary scale and Mr Sichela then gave Mulenga K600 and an application form hoping to get employed.
Mr Chisha convicted Mulenga for the offences.?He said Mulenga needed to be punished for what he did and sentenced him to one-year-six-months in prison.
