Opposition United National Independence Party (UNIP) Secretary General Kenneth Kaira has dispelled earlier assertions by former Lusaka provincial chairperson and Acting Secretary for women Affairs Beatrice Kayuni that all wings of the former ruling party have become nonfunctional.
Mr. Kaira has assured party members and the general public that what was earlier reported in the media was the work of a disgruntled individual for reason best known to herself.

He has told Qfm news in a statement that party president and his vice continue to enjoy the support and solidarity of the members and officials as witnesses by the many messages received from all ten provinces of the country.

Mr. Kaira has also disclosed that his party is currently engaged in an intensive program of institutional building in which all its well meaning officials and leaders are involved.

He says as regards decision making and internal electoral program all normal procedures are being followed and preparation for the party’s national congress in the period ahead is also work in progress.

The UNIP Secretary General has since reaffirmed his party’s commitment o giving all genuine members of the party an opportunity to compete for office when the party national congress is heal before 2016.
