The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) has called on members of the University of Zambia (UNZA) bursaries’ committee to resign owing to the death of a first year female student who was denied a bursary.

Governance advisor Isaac Mwanza says his organization is f the view that in any given civilized society like that of Zambia members of the UNZA bursaries committee should have resigned by now.

Mr. Mwanza has told Qfm news this is why YALI is appealing to the consciences of all the members of the UNZA bursaries committee to reflect on the death of the first year female student and do the right thing.

He says the right thing, in this case, is for them to step aside.

Mr. Mwanza says YALI is also calling on Education, Science, Vocational and Early Education Minister John Phiri to nullify all the bursaries that have been given and star afresh in examining who is qualified to get at bursary at the University.

He says this is will be the only just way of trying to pay back the life of the female student that has been lost.

The YALI governance advisor has further called on of Dr. Phiri to also examine his conscience if speculations that he has a child who is among the students that have been given bursaries are true.

Mr. Mwanza says investigations should also be instituted to ascertain exactly which students have been given bursaries.
