—The Zambia Institute of Chattered Accountancy (ZICA) has donated K20,000 to the National Heart Coalition for the construction of the National Cardiac Institute.

Speaking during the donation, ZICA Chief Executive Officer, Hapenga Kabeta, said many people in Zambia are at risk of suffering from cardiac-related complications posing an urgent need for the country to establish a local cardiac centre which could easily be accessed by Zambians.

Mr Kabete said the donation was in line with ZICA’s corporate social responsibility objectives of becoming a good corporate citizen and has called for unity of purpose from the society that would see the project through.

He urged the nation to see beyond political lines, tribe or class in their contribution towards the noble cause, adding that everyone is a potential beneficiary of the project.

Meanwhile, ZICA has also made a commitment to donate another K20,000 in 2015.

And National Heart Coalition Board Chairperson, Aaron Mujajati, thanked ZICA and other institutions for their support.

Dr Mujajati, who is also Zambia Medical Association President, noted that it is the right time to construct the National Cardiac Institute and appealed to individuals not to despair but come on board to support the project.

He also disclosed that the institute would cater for training personnel and research services to mitigate the rising cardiac related illnesses.
