—Ndola Mayor Samuel Munthali, says the Local Government Association of Zambia (LGAZ) is overwhelmed by the re-introduction of crop levy as it will greatly benefit farmers in transporting their produce across the country.

Mr Munthali said the payment of crop levy is essential as it will enhance service delivery of goods and services and foster economic development.

The Ndola mayor was speaking at the 58th Local Government Association of Zambia (LGAZ) and the 11th Alliance of Mayors and Municipal Leaders Initiative (AMICAALL) on HIV/AIDS in Africa in Livingstone today.

He appealed to the government to stick to its promise of ensuring that it is implemented as soon as possible.

Mr Munthali has also called for efficiency on the   payment of councillors’ allowances that were introduced last year to enhance service delivery.

He noted that it is unfortunate that some councillors have not yet started receiving their K700 allowances.

Mr Munthali said the allowances are cardinal in the welfare of civic leaders across the country.
