Airtel Networks Zambia is upgrading its sites to improve the internet experience for customers across the country.

According to Airtel, to date, 58 sites have been upgraded since July 2014 and the balance of the 242 remaining sites are expected to be completed by end of 2014. The 58 new sites are meant for customers to enjoy the fastest internet speed possible.

The company has revealed that the upgrade and expansion program will cost over $80m with 14 upgraded sites so far in Central Province and 12 on the Copperbelt.

The Southern province has 8 sites while Eastern, Lusaka and Northern have 7 sites each that have been upgraded to date with Western having 3.

Airtel Networks Zambia, Managing Director Ms. Charity Chanda Lumpa has explained that the challenges being experienced in this period are as a result of the change-over from the older sites to the newer ones.

“I appeal to all our customers to kindly bear with us as we upgrade to make the network have an improved quality. We expect to have outages in the course of this exercise and seek your understanding during this period. The ultimate goal is to give you all a delightful, seamless and sustainable experience for your calls and access to your internet,” Lumpa said.

Adding: “Airtel wishes to thank all its customers for your continued patronage and understanding.”
