The opposition Movement for Multi Party Democracy (MMD) says former Republican President Rupiah Banda has not officially communicated to the party about his intentions to return to active politics.
And the former ruling party has confirmed that some MMD members have been advocating for the return of the former Head of State to active politics.
MMD National Secretary Muhabi Lungu says people are at liberty to debate about the return of Mr. Banda to active politics stating that Zambia is a democratic country.
Mr. Lungu says Mr. Banda has not written any official notification to the party that he would like to return to the party and that such calls for his return will be treated as mare speculations.
He has however confirmed that it has come to the attention of the party that some MMD members want Mr. Banda to return to active politics.
Some individual party members are calling for the reinstatement of Rupiah Banda as MMD president following persistent divisions that have engulfed the former ruling party.
