Three  people have died on the spot  in a road traffic accident involving a gas tanker truck and a truck and trailer along the Great North road in Shiwang’gandu district .

ZANIS reports that the trio include a Zambian woman identified as Christine Chibwe a teacher at Chilangalilo primary school and two unidentified Tanzanian male nationals.

Shiwangándu District Commissioner Moses Katebe confirmed the death of the trio in a fatal accident that happened at an area between Mukwikile and Kalalantekwe in Shiwang`andu district of Muchinga province last evening.

Mr. Katebe said the bodies of the accident victims are lying at Chinsali District Community Hospital mortuary.

He said the accident happened around 18:00 hours last evening when a trailer and a gas tanker had a partial contact after the deceased driver who was driving a tanker truck registration number T452 CVW and tanker number T596 CCA tried to over take another truck.

Meanwhile, a Tanzanian National of Kennan Transport Limited Prosper Kessy who was driving a truck registration number T269 ACT and Trailer number T944 ACG survived the accident with a swollen hand.

Kessy told ZANIS that after the lid of a tanker carrying gas opened, it hit on the screen of his truck and left him with a swollen hand and that the oil tanker, driven by the deceased, lost control and careered off the road breaking into pieces as it hit into trees.

Efforts to get a comment from Muchinga Province Deputy Police Commissioner Bonny Kapeso failed by press time.

  1. Very poor reporting. One does not know whether three or two trucks were involved in this accident.

Then it is reported “He said the accident happened around 18:00 hours last evening when a trailer and a gas tanker had a partial contact after the deceased driver who was driving a tanker truck registration number T452 CVW and tanker number T596 CCA tried to over take another truck” It sounds like the deceased driver was driving two trucks at the same time.
