SWASCO signs Mou with Chikankata council
Chikankata, 16 Sept, 2014,ZANIS……………Chikankata District Council has signed a Memorandum Of Understanding(MOU) with the Southern Water and Sewerage Company Limited (SWASCO) to provide services.
ZANIS reports that Chikankata district council secretary Damson Mukwato confirmed the development and that water and sanitation services will be provided to Turnpike East residential area .
He said Chikankata East Residential area was new being developed by the local authority and comprises 380 hectares of land and 1400 housing plots while 34 are commercial residential plots.
The area is situated behind Mazabuka-Lusaka-Chirundu T-Junction and lacks water and sanitation services .
Mr. Mukwato said the plots comprise facilities such as churches, a post office, markets and that as such SWASCO will provide water supply and sanitation services.
He said Chikankata District Council has managed to grade all the roads at the site to enhance accessibility by the owners.
He added that the District is in a hurry to provide the essential services needed by the people before it is developed and therefore water and sanitation were just one of them.
He revealed that the total cost for the entire project was K3, 600,000.
In an interview with ZANIS, Southern Water and Sewerage Company Managing Director, Charles Shindaile said that the company was committed to providing water and sanitation services to its customers.
Mr.Shindaile commended Chikankata District Council for involving SWASCO in its early stages of planning at the area.
He said when water is provided in the new residential area, people will be able to start building and bring development to the new District and also attract investment.
