— Lusaka Street vending to end soon

——-The Lusaka full council sitting today heard that plans are under way to clear street vendors in the Capital City.

 

The full council further heard that the Lusaka City Council  ( LCC ) has in this vain identified a piece of land in Chibolwa where it build a mega market for vendors.

 

ZANIS reports that this  was revealed by Lusaka city council Director for Engineering Services Gilbert Sendama during the adoption of the Third Ordinary council meeting minutes, today.

 

Mr Sendama said the clearing of street vendors trading along the Lumba and Cairo roads, respectively, will be done prior to the 50 years jubilee celebrations.

 

The full council further heard that a consultant from South Africa was engaged by the city council so as to help the council plan how to handle street venders.

 

It was also learnt that council officials from LCC recently travelled to South Africa to learn from that country how it has managed street vending.

 

And Munali PF area member of parliament Prof Nkandu Luo said that Rwanda was the only country in Africa were street vending has been dealt with successfully.

 

The law maker said council officials would have learnt more on the handling of street vendors if they had visited Rwanda.
