Govt spends K4.2 million on 138 youth groups in Lusaka

—Government has empowered 138 youth groups and individuals in Lusaka Province from the 2013 Youth Empowerment Funds under the Ministry of Youth and Sport.

 

And over K4.2 million has been spent as grant and empowerment to fund to the projects that are dotted in all the districts across the province.

 

Provincial Youth Development Coordinator, Waana Namakanda, disclosed in an interview with ZANIS that out of the 138 beneficiaries of the funds, 12 projects received funds as grants while the rest will be required to pay back.

 

Ms Namakanda stated that the funded groups were identified after a thorough scrutiny by the Provincial Youth Development Fund Technical Committee which scrutinises the application forms as well as physically inspecting the projects.

 

The Youth Development Coordinator also disclosed that over 300 application forms for the empowerment funds have been received from youths located from all the districts of Lusaka.

 

She said the committee that is in charge of recommending groups and individuals who qualify for accessing the fund have started physical inspections to know the places where the projects are located as well as see the viability of the projects.

 

Government has allocated K 20 million towards the youth empowerment funds as a means of alleviating poverty by creating jobs for the young generation.
