The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has announced that the Godfrey Chitalu Stadium, home ground of super division outfit Kabwe Warriors Football Club has been closed for the remainder of the 2014 MTN FAZ super League season.

FAZ Spokesperson Nkweto Tembwe said the decision was made at Football House on Saturday, September 13 by the football governing body’s disciplinary committee which ruled that the stadium be closed due to the club’s failure to control fans who caused abandonment of some matches played there.

The latest match to be abandoned at Godfrey Chitalu was a Week 22 fixture against Nkana for which Warriors has been fined K5, 000.00 and 150 penalty points.

Tembwe disclosed in a statement released to ZANIS in Lusaka today that Nkana have since been awarded three points via a 2 – 0 score line.

Kabwe Warriors fans also caused the abandonment of a week 23 fixture against Zanaco at Sunset Stadium for which the club has been fined K10, 000.00 and 150 penalty points.

The FAZ Spokesperson said the FAZ Disciplinary Committee also passed decisions to fine defending super league champions Nkana K5, 000.00 for failure to control their fans at Sunset Stadium in a week 20 fixture where Nkana fans broke the perimeter wire fence around the pitch.

He said defending Super Division Champions Nkana Football Club will also bear the cost of repairing the fence.

Tembwe said on their part, Zanaco have been fined for failure to provide adequate security during the match.
