Solwezi Central polls ready

Solwezi, September 9, 2014, ZANIS—Election officials in the Solwezi Central parliamentary by-elections say they are ready to host  the September 11 polls.

 

Solwezi District electoral officer Ronald Daka said all the logistics and materials for conducting the elections had been put in place.

 

Mr Daka who is Solwezi Town Clerk said in an interview with ZANIS today that ballot papers had already been received and are scheduled to be distributed tomorrow to the polling stations in readiness for voting on Thursday, 11 September.

 

Meanwhile,  Vice President Dr Guy Scott has arrived in Solwezi to drum support for the PF candidate Newton Malwa.

 

Dr Scott who arrived at Solwezi airport at about 10 30 hours is scheduled to hold public rallies in Kyafukuma, Kyawama, St Francis, Kapijimpanga and Kimasala areas today and tomorrow.

 

Solwezi central constituency has a total of 30 polling stations and 52, 900 registered voters.

 

Six political parties are contesting the Solwezi Central seat following the nullification of the election of Lucky Mulusa of the MMD by the Supreme Court for electoral malpractices.

 

Mary Katiki is contesting on the UNIP ticket, Lucky Mulusa is re-contesting on the MMD ticket, Nathan Mulonga is the FDD candidate while Dawson Kafwaya is contesting on the UPND party.  

Political Campaigns in the Solwezi Central consistency are expected to close tomorrow at 18 hours.
